Students are important and productive members of the Suncor team. Throughout the year, post-secondary students gain valuable work experience through co-operative education placements and summer jobs at Suncor. Working side by side with some of the most talented people in the energy industry, the work assignments and mentoring provide excellent academic and career growth.

Co-op Students

Suncor’s co-op program provides challenging work experiences. Work terms of four, eight, 12 or 16 months build on classroom studies and create opportunities for personal and professional growth and development. Better yet, many of our co-op students go on to become permanent employees at Suncor after they graduate.

Process. Initial contact begins with Suncor posting job opportunities at campus career centres, participating in campus career fairs or inviting students to attend information sessions. Upon accepting an offer, Suncor will begin working with you to help make the transition. If you need to move to your work site, we’ll make it easy by providing assistance with travel and relocation expenses, as well as either referring you to or providing short-term housing options (depending on the location). We’ll also connect you with other students who are already in the picture.

Compensation & Benefits. Co-op students are valuable members of our team, with work responsibilities similar to entry-level professionals and that’s reflected in the compensation. While at work, co-op participants receive competitive pay and may be eligible for some flexible days off.

Summer Students

Suncor’s summer student program provides candidates with the opportunity to gain industry experience working on a full-time basis. This program offers students practical experience, knowledge and contacts that can help them secure positions at Suncor upon graduation.

Eligibility. Summer students must be working toward a degree or diploma at a post-secondary institution and must be returning to school in the fall.

Process. Summer positions are posted on our website from January until late March (click on Search Careers in the left-hand navigation of this page). Candidates accepted for an interview will be contacted. Formal offers will be extended in April. Apply to Suncor by submitting a resume and cover letter via our online system.
